- Plantar fasciitis;
- Heel spurs;
- Bruising of the calcaneus;
- Achilles tendon pathology;
- Bursitis;
- Stress fracture;
- Neuroma.
- Symptoms of heel pain can include:
- Increased pain with increased activity;
- Increased pain on specific training surfaces;
- Insidious or acute pain.

- Heel spurs are bony growths that present underneath the calcaneus (heel bone).
- X-ray imaging, MRI or CT scans are required to diagnoses a heel spur.
- Pain is often caused as a result of inflammation of the plantar fascia and therefore surgery to remove the heel spur is not always necessary.
- Plantar Fasciitis is a common condition involving thickening of the plantar fascia, a connective tissue on the sole of your foot.
- Symptoms can include:
- Pain with the first few steps in the morning;
- Heel pain;
- Heel pain when running;
- Pain when you begin to walk after siting down for a long period of time;
- Unilateral or bilateral.
- There is a range of contributing factors to the development of plantar fasciitis. These can include:
- Increase weight;
- Age;
- Overuse;
- Poor flexibility;
- Activity levels;
- Foot posture.
- Treatment can include rest, ice, potentially anti-inflammatories, soft tissue therapies and/or orthotic therapy.
